Mock - Up Article
Mock-up of the article
Who is the biggest up and coming star in the world of music?
If you answered Sam B you are absolutely correct. From starting his music
career singing and playing the guitar on YouTube to signing a record deal with
Lucille Studios, Sam B has had a rise like many others however his has been
filled with expectation and excitement due to his style and themes. With the
release of his brand new album ‘Fresh’ we decided here at Paradox it was time
to invite him down for a chat about his life so far and how he planned to
continue his rise.
Thank you for joining
us here Sam, what do you think is the main reason for your success?
I honestly don’t know, it’s all a blur really. One day I’m
in my bedroom singing to a camera and the next day I’m in a recording booth
writing my own songs professionally, its really weird that so much has happened
in such a short space of time.
What advice would you
give someone who is currently on YouTube trying to get a contract?
Just keep at it, that’s all the advice I can really give. I don’t
know what I did that made me so special but all labels are trying to find new
talent to sing for them.
You burst onto the
scene with your song ‘New World’, what inspired you to make that song?
Ihad quite a tough childhood when I was younger as we were always moving
house because of my dad so I wanted to make a song that was almost dedicated to
my parents, without actually being dedicated to them. They lyrics Im sure can
relate to people and that’s all I really want is for people to understand my
lyrics. I’m honestly just amazed that the song did that well really, especially
for a debut single.
Will it appear on
your album?
Of course, I would never leave my best song out, not that
the others aren’t great.
What would you say is
the best thing about your album?
Its style and the way that the lyrics talk to you about life
stories and they’re not just songs about drugs and money, but me and my life…if
feel as though once you let the lyrics talk to you it helps you understand
everything a lot better
Where can we find
your album?
On iTunes, google play, in stores, most places that you find
any other magazine.
What is the next step
for you?
So I’m going to be finishing the tour of America before
coming back to the UK and beginning to write new and exciting songs.
Thank you for your
time
Purchase Sam B’s new
album ‘Fresh’ on the 25th November at all good retailers. Next week
we have an exclusive interview with the man who believes he is Elvis reincarnated

Artist Planning
Artist Planning
The main feature article is a solo artist called Sam B who is
promoting his brand new debut album as the biggest new artist in the genre.
Profile:
Is a 20 year old male solo artist called Sam B who started
his career on YouTube before signing a professional contract with a record
label at the age of 18. He is about to release his debut album, Fresh, which is
causing waves in the industry for its unique touch and sound. Many of his
lyrics are considered controversial and offensive, however his lyrics and style
has made him an icon because of his honesty in his music and the reality he
sings about. He is very intelligent and knows how to play the media in order to
make him either seem as the hero or the innocent bystander. In school he took
music along with other creative subjects such as art, although he did take some
of the harder more academic subjects such as maths and science in order to push
his knowledge to the maximum. He was born in London, England and often performs
in shows across the UK, such as Glastonbury this year; however he is currently
in Los Angeles promoting his new album to his American audience. He is often
seen wearing casual clothes and likes to stop and take pictures with fans on
the street, this publicity has helped him to gain more momentum in the number
of fans that he has. He runs several social media pages and often responds to
fans questions making him a fan favourite with music audiences. He is not
really compared to anyone else in the music industry due to his style and tone.
Initial ideas
Initial Ideas
Idea 1 – Rock
The target audience for a rock music magazine would be 15 –
25 year olds because they are the age group that would be most interested in a
rock magazine, due to the artists that would feature and the overall genre
therefore making it easy to appeal to them. The rock music genre is very
popular with people within my target audience. A lot of artist’s music could be
a part of the genre therefore allowing a wide variety of talent to be a part of
the magazine.
Idea 2 – Pop
The target audience for a Pop music magazine would be the
biggest out of all of the ideas due to its popularity with all ages; however 14
– 21 is the main target audience; however a uni – sex teen magazine based
around pop music would work the best as they are the group that is most
interested in the genre. Like with rock, a lot of artists make pop music which can
mean that there are a lot of potential new artists available.
Idea 3 – Rap
The target audience for a rap music magazine would be at a
higher age then that of a rock or pop music magazine which would then mean that
there would be less people going out to buy the magazine. My target audience of
15 – 25 year olds would not apply to a rap magazine as it would a rock or pop, which
means that it, would be at a disadvantage compared to the others when it came
to designing and modelling the magazines house styles and artists.
Final Idea
The type of magazine that I will be choosing will be a rock
magazine as the style and artists that would feature would be closer related to
the ones that my target audience wanted therefore making the rock magazine
easier to make my target audience happy and purchase the magazine.

How has the internet changed the Music Press?
How has the internet changed the Music Press?
There are many different ways that the internet has changed Music Press and these are the key ones that have changed it for the better, making it easier for new artists to get recognition and fame.Online Sales
Before the internet was as big as it is today, selling a product over the internet was incredibly difficult. This meant that big companies were not very interested in selling products over the internet and did not see the use, however due to entreprenerus it meant that websites were created that made the selling of CDs easier which helped create a new way of getting a product from the musician and to the audience. The internet has also had more changes in the online music selling world as Napster (which is still operational today) was once a peer-to-peer network which meant that people could join the network and share or download music from others. This meant that more independent artists,or hard-to-find music could be shared among friends, but as this grew in size and popularity it meant that bands and artists got upset over their lost avenue and the peer-to-peer network was eventually shut down due to copyright of songs. The Napster incident actually began to make people have to pay more for albums due to the loss in money due to the peer-to-peer netwroks sharing songs between eachother without having paid for it. ITunes was eventually created which gave people the option to buy just a single from an artist instead of the entire album and as the internet increases in size today there are even more ways of optaining music online.
Websites
In the early days of the internet websites were not as advanced as they are today and often did not have anything special on them, such as graphics, however as technology evolved eventually to the stage it is at today. Websites have altered the face of music marketing due to the ability for an artist to direct their fans to one website means that there is an ability for them to build their own community and share information about an album or single. All of this did not exist before the World Wide Web. Along with advertising through websites there are still more traditional routes such as the paper, TV, radio commercials and so on however it means that independent artists cannot get the same amount of publicity as artists with a music label and this makes the internet a great place for independent artists to advertise their product.
Social Media
There have been many social media sites around however the earliest most important one would be Myspace when it comes to music marketing. At the height of Myspace's popularity many bands were on the site trying to get fans to buy their album or go to tours. The site meant that bands and artists could interact with their fans and try to bring in more fans on the way. Myspace eventually had a fall in popularity and artists ended up going on sites such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to show fans their music and interact with them. This shows that as technology evolves it shows that music belongs on social media and how it has a huge impact on music marketing.
The main reason for music magazines leaving print form is due to the accessibility that information is on the internet. Information that would only be in a music magazine is now on the internet, where it is easily acquirable. This meant that the loss of money from print media meant that more jobs were being lost in the newspaper industry therefore meaning the cost efficient method would be to make magazines solely online
Conclusion
The internet has a lot to do with the internet now then it ever has before, and it will only increase in the coming years. Many bug companies are taking less risks with artists nowadays, therefore meaning that new artists are using sites such as YouTube to prove themselves and create a fan base for themselves. Having a social media account means that artists are more likely to interact with fans which means that the experiences and connection with the fans and vice versa is sometimes more important for a music artist.

Analysing Magazine Contents Pages
Masthead of the contents page:
There is a large
letter ‘V’ which stands for the magazines title, which is ‘Vibe’. The ‘V’ is always
present on all Vibe Magazine covers and content pages, and usually is placed on
the top of the page in order to keep consistency within the product. The
consistency makes the magazine look more professional which means that more
people are likely to purchase the magazine; also it makes the magazine more recognisable
just by using the letter ‘V’. A lot of the content pages from ‘Vibe’ use a
grayscale colour scheme, which although not eye – catching, makes the magazine
seem more elegant in the design therefore making more people purchasing the magazine
week in week out.
The dominant image:
The dominant image
is an image of Kanye West with an arm over his shoulder. The hand is holding a
red heart, which is the only colour on the page which helps draw the eye of the
reader. The hand holding the hand could mean that women are trying to win his
heart. The image dominates the page and will help bring in his target audience
as well as their own, as his music is in the same genre as the magazine which
means that they will have a similar target audience. He is looking straight
into the camera, with an angry expression; which could associate with rap music
due to the connotations of rebellion of the genre. Kanye is the main image on
the contents page and the front cover which means that he is the main article
in the magazine, therefore meaning people will purchase the magazine in order
to read about him, he is also smartly dressed which helps make the magazine
look elegant with the colour scheme.
The word contents:
The word content is
written in a large black font that stands out from the rest of the background,
which makes it seem original and eye catching. Like with the masthead most of
the Vive issues have the word contents written like this helps with the
consistency of the product.
Subheading:
As well as the word contents the subheadings are written in large black writing which helps show the audience where the main areas of interest are on the page, under features and fashion. The font that has been used is fancy, which again links with the elegant style of the colour scheme and Kanye’s clothes, but it also makes the contents page look more interesting.

Articles;
They are placed
under the subheading which shows the category that they will be under; they show
the reader the main parts of the magazine and what pages they are located on.
The font colour is grey, which makes them stand out from the subheading but
keeps them to the colour scheme and the elegant style that they are.
